A*STAR SIPGA Research Attachment (Singapore)

The Singapore International Pre-Graduate Award (SIPGA) funds short research attachments of two to six months at A*STAR, Singapore’s lead science and technology agency. International undergraduate (third and fourth year) and master’s students in STEM receive a monthly stipend of SGD 2,000 while working with world-class researchers across AI, biomedical science, physical sciences and engineering.

Applications run on a rolling basis, with a start date at least four months after you apply, and candidates rank up to three projects from the official list. SIPGA is also a well-trodden stepping stone toward the fully funded SINGA PhD award in Singapore.

• International third and fourth-year undergraduate students and master's students at overseas universities in STEM disciplines.
• Fields include computing and information science, biomedical science, physical sciences and engineering.
• Achieved, or on track to achieve, at least Second-Class Upper Honours or the equivalent in your bachelor's degree.
• Remaining matriculated at your home university during the entire attachment period.
• Proficient written and spoken English and a demonstrated interest in research.
• Intended start date at least four months after the date of application, since processing and passes take time.
• A*STAR may add selection criteria under its prevailing scholarship policies.

• Undertake a two to six month research attachment inside an A*STAR Research Institute, contributing to a listed project.
• Work directly with A*STAR scientists on experiments, data analysis or computational work in your chosen field.
• Select and rank up to three projects from the official SIPGA project list in your application.
• Participate in the institute's seminars and research community life.
• Complete the online SIPGA Attachment Report by the end of the placement.
• Build the supervisor relationship that often anchors a later A*STAR or Singapore PhD application.

• Download the current SIPGA project list from the A*STAR website and identify up to three projects that fit your background.
• Prepare your passport copy, complete transcripts (translated to English where needed) and an updated CV.
• Submit the online application through the A*STAR SIPGA portal, ranking your project choices and preferred dates.
• Apply at least four months before your intended start date; earlier is better because popular projects fill up.
• Shortlisted candidates sit a virtual interview with the A*STAR supervisor of the project.
• Successful applicants receive an offer, then complete the Training Employment Pass process with A*STAR's guidance before travel.
