LFX Mentorship Program (Linux Foundation, Remote)

The LFX Mentorship Program pays developers worldwide to work one-on-one with maintainers of major Linux Foundation projects, from Kubernetes and the CNCF ecosystem to the Linux kernel and Hyperledger, across 12-week remote terms. Mentees ship real code into production open source and receive a completion stipend tiered by region, with three terms every year.

There is no student-status requirement, making it open to students, graduates and career changers anywhere. Selection hinges on completing each project’s prerequisite tasks properly, and alumni are heavily recruited across cloud-native and infrastructure engineering.

• Availability for roughly full-time or substantial part-time effort across the 12-week term, as each project defines.
• Git and GitHub fluency plus the languages the project lists (commonly Go, C, Rust or Python).
• English sufficient for community communication on public channels.
• Three terms run per year (spring, summer, fall), each with its own application window on the LFX platform.

• Read each project's description and complete its prerequisite tasks precisely; skipped prerequisites are the top rejection cause.
• Apply to a small number of projects you genuinely fit, attaching your CV and links to prior work.
• Mentors review applications and may set additional exercises or interviews.
• Accepted mentees confirm availability and begin the term with a published plan and evaluation dates.
• If not selected, keep contributing to the project publicly; visible contributions dramatically improve the next term's odds.
