About This Scholarship

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Switzerland, hosts the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator — the Large Hadron Collider. The CERN Doctoral Student Programme offers fully funded positions for PhD students working on their thesis in experimental or theoretical particle physics, applied physics, computing, engineering, or related fields. Students spend 6 to 36 months at CERN conducting research under the supervision of a CERN staff member while registered for a PhD at their home university. This is one of the most prestigious scientific research opportunities in the world.

Benefits

  • Monthly living allowance of CHF 3,632 (approximately USD 4,060), travel allowance for one round trip between home country and CERN, comprehensive health insurance (CERN's own insurance scheme), access to CERN's world-class research facilities and computing infrastructure, networking with thousands of scientists from around the world, professional development workshops and seminars
