About this scholarship
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Switzerland, hosts the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator — the Large Hadron Collider. The CERN Doctoral Student Programme offers fully funded positions for PhD students working on their thesis in experimental or theoretical particle physics, applied physics, computing, engineering, or related fields. Students spend 6 to 36 months at CERN conducting research under the supervision of a CERN staff member while registered for a PhD at their home university. This is one of the most prestigious scientific research opportunities in the world.
Eligibility
- Must be enrolled in a doctoral program at a recognized university at the time of application
- Must remain registered as a PhD student throughout the period at CERN
- Must work on a doctoral thesis in a field relevant to CERN's research activities (particle physics, accelerator physics, computing, engineering, etc.)
- Must have completed all required Master's-level coursework
- Must be proficient in English and/or French
- Must have a strong academic record in physics, engineering, computing, or related STEM fields
- No nationality restrictions — open to students worldwide
