About this scholarship
The Chinese Government Scholarship, administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), is one of the world’s largest government-funded scholarship programs. It provides full funding for international students to study at over 280 designated Chinese universities in undergraduate, Master’s, PhD, and general scholar programs. China has become the world’s third-largest destination for international students, with many universities ranked in the global top 100. Programs are available in Chinese and increasingly in English.
Eligibility
- Must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health
- Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent (for undergraduate), bachelor's degree (for Master's), or master's degree (for PhD)
- Must be under 25 for undergraduate, under 35 for Master's, and under 40 for PhD programs
- Must meet the language requirements of the chosen program (HSK Level 4+ for Chinese-taught programs, or English proficiency for English-taught programs)
- Must not be receiving any other Chinese government scholarship at the time of application

Required Documents
CSC Online Application Form (printed and signed), Notarized copies of highest degree certificate, Official academic transcripts (notarized copies), Study plan or research proposal (minimum 800 words for graduate programs), Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors, Foreigner Physical Examination Form (completed within 6 months), Valid passport copy with at least 18 months validity, Language proficiency certificate (HSK for Chinese programs, IELTS/TOEFL for English programs), No criminal record certificate, Acceptance letter from Chinese university (if applying through university channel)
How to Apply
- Register on the CSC Online Application System (studyinchina.csc.edu.cn)
- Choose your category: Type A (via Chinese embassy/bilateral), Type B (via the university), or Type C
- Obtain the agency number and apply to your chosen Chinese university and/or embassy
- Submit transcripts, study plan, physical examination form, and references before the deadline
