About this scholarship

The Fulbright Program is the US Government’s flagship international educational exchange program, operating in 160+ countries worldwide. Fulbright Foreign Students conduct graduate study, advanced research, or teach English at US institutions. Alumni include 60+ Nobel Prize winners, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, and 40+ heads of state.

Eligibility

  • Citizens and permanent residents of eligible countries (160+ countries participate)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent by the time the grant begins
  • Sufficient proficiency in English (TOEFL/IELTS required, minimum scores vary by country)
  • Meet the health requirements for a US J-1 visa
  • Must return to home country for at least 2 years after the program (J-1 visa requirement)
  • Selection criteria include academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to community engagement

How to Apply

  • Be a non-U.S. citizen resident in your country of nomination
  • Apply through the binational Fulbright Commission/Foundation or U.S. Embassy in your home country by that country's deadline
  • Eligibility and selection vary by country; placement at U.S. universities is handled by IIE
