Gates Cambridge Scholarships

Highly competitive scholarships for outstanding applicants from outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge.

Citizens of any country outside the UK. Must apply for a full-time residential postgraduate course at Cambridge. Exceptional academic record, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of others.

• Full tuition fees for the duration of your degree (up to 4 years for PhD)
• Maintenance allowance (~£19,500/year for 12 months at the PhD rate)
• One economy return airfare per year
• Inbound visa costs and NHS health surcharge
• Academic development funding (up to £2,000 for conferences, research trips)
• Family allowance for dependents (if applicable)
• Fieldwork funding for research students
• Hardship funding available in exceptional circumstances
• Access to the Gates Cambridge Scholars community and alumni network

• Valid passport (min 6 months validity)
• Bachelor's and Master's degree certificates and transcripts
• Research proposal (2-5 pages)
• Two academic reference letters
• English language proficiency (IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 90+)
• Updated CV/Resume
• Statement of purpose / Motivation letter
• Publications list (if any)

• Be a citizen of any country outside the UK applying for an eligible full-time postgraduate course at Cambridge
• Submit your Cambridge admission application by the relevant deadline (October for US citizens resident in the US, early January for all others)
• Complete the Gates Cambridge section (a statement and a reference); you are considered as part of the admissions process
