Islamic University of Technology (IUT) OIC Scholarship, Bangladesh

The Islamic University of Technology in Gazipur, Bangladesh, is a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, funded by direct endowment from OIC member countries. Founded in 1978, it exists specifically to develop human resources across OIC member states in engineering, technology, business and technical education, and it offers scholarships to allocated numbers of students from those countries. Teaching is entirely in English.

There are two levels of award. The full OIC scholarship covers tuition, boarding, lodging and medical care, with only a refundable deposit of about 1,000 US dollars payable on admission, which brings the real cost of a complete degree close to zero. The partial OIC scholarship substantially reduces fees, with an admission payment of around 6,600 dollars. Programmes span B.Sc. Engineering, BBA, B.Sc. in Technical Education, and master’s and doctoral degrees.

One rule determines whether you get a scholarship at all, and it is easy to miss. International applicants must apply through the nominating authority in their own OIC member state. IUT states plainly that applicants who apply directly through its portal without a nomination letter are considered for the self-financed scheme only. For Pakistani applicants the nominating authority is the Higher Education Commission, and applications go through the HEC portal under learning opportunities abroad, with a valid HAT or USAT-E score required in recent cycles. Score validity windows apply, so check yours has not expired.

This is one of the more accessible fully funded routes available to students across the Muslim world, and it is underused relative to its value, partly because the nomination step is poorly understood. Practical points worth planning for: educational documents must be attested from secondary school onward, equivalency certification such as IBCC is needed for Pakistani applicants, and incomplete sets are rejected rather than queried. Applications submitted for an irrelevant programme are also rejected outright. Selected candidates must pay the admission fee within a short published window, usually in May, or the place passes to the next candidate on the merit list. Anyone pursuing a professional degree should confirm accreditation with the relevant council at home, such as the Pakistan Engineering Council, before enrolling.
