About this scholarship

The King Abdulaziz University Scholarship is a fully funded award for international students at one of Saudi Arabia’s top-ranked universities, located in Jeddah. Scholars study tuition-free with a monthly stipend of about SAR 850 to 1,900 depending on level, free university housing, healthcare, subsidized meals and an annual round-trip flight home.

Bachelor’s, master’s and PhD seats are offered through the national Study in Saudi platform, with most graduate programs taught in English. Undergraduate applicants must be 17 to 25, master’s applicants 30 or under and PhD applicants 35 or under. Application windows open per intake throughout the year, and there is no application fee.

Eligibility

  • Non-Saudi students residing outside the Kingdom without a Saudi residency permit at the time of application; both men and women can apply.
  • Undergraduate applicants must be 17 to 25 years old with a secondary school certificate no more than three years old and strong grades.
  • Master's applicants must be 30 or under and PhD applicants 35 or under, with a recognized prior degree at a very good grade or better.
  • Good conduct and medical fitness are required, and previous scholarship dismissals from Saudi institutions disqualify an applicant.
  • Most graduate programmes at KAU are taught in English (a statement of purpose in English is required except for Islamic Studies and Arabic), while some tracks are Arabic-taught.
  • Health-profession fields such as Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy are not open to international scholarship students.
  • Female applicants should note the university applies Saudi guardian (mahram) regulations, so read the current admission guide carefully before applying.

Benefits & Coverage

  • Tuition-free scholarship seat at one of Saudi Arabia's highest-ranked universities (Jeddah), covering the full programme.
  • Monthly stipend (about SAR 850 for bachelor's, SAR 900 for master's and SAR 1,900 for PhD), plus a preparation allowance of two months' stipend on arrival.
  • University accommodation, free healthcare at the university hospital, and subsidized meals at campus restaurants.
  • Annual round-trip air ticket to your home country, plus arrival compensation for newcomers.
  • Extra excellence allowance for top academic performance, thesis printing allowance, and a graduation allowance for shipping books.
  • Separate male and female campuses, each with full academic, cultural and sports facilities.

Required Documents

  • Online application through the KAU admission portal or the national Study in Saudi platform.
  • Secondary school certificate (undergraduate) or degree certificate and transcript (graduate), certified or attested as instructed.
  • Curriculum vitae and a statement of purpose in English (Arabic for Islamic Studies and Arabic language programmes).
  • Two recommendation letters from former professors for graduate applicants.
  • Copy of a passport valid for at least one year.
  • Medical report and a certificate of good conduct.
  • Certified translations where documents are not in Arabic or English.

How to Apply

  • Create an account on the Study in Saudi platform or the KAU scholarships portal and browse the programmes open to international students.
  • Select your degree level and list your preferred majors in order of priority.
  • Upload all documents in the required format; there is no application fee.
  • Application windows are announced per intake through the year, so watch the portal and apply as soon as your intended round opens (recent undergraduate rounds have closed around mid-June, with graduate rounds running separately).
  • If admitted, bring your original documents attested by the Saudi Embassy in your country, or by an authority the university recognizes where there is no embassy.
  • Complete visa formalities with the acceptance documents and plan arrival before your programme start date.
