About this scholarship
The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship, established through a partnership between the Mandela Rhodes Foundation and the Rhodes Trust, supports exceptional young Africans to pursue postgraduate study at South African universities. The program combines academic funding with an intensive leadership development curriculum. Scholars participate in workshops, mentoring, and community engagement activities designed to develop their capacity as ethical leaders for Africa.
Eligibility
Must be a citizen of an African country. Must be 30 years of age or younger at the time of taking up the scholarship. Must hold a Bachelor's degree. Must be applying for or admitted to a postgraduate qualification at a recognized South African university. Must demonstrate academic achievement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, and social commitment.

How to Apply
- Be a citizen of an African country, aged 19 to 29 in the year of applying, with strong academic results (marks above 70% / upper second) and demonstrated leadership, able to study in English, and holding (or completing by the take-up date) an undergraduate degree
- The award funds postgraduate (Honours or Master's) study at a recognised South African university; you must also gain admission there yourself
- Apply through the Mandela Rhodes Foundation online portal during the application window (around March to April) with essays, transcripts, and three referees
