About this scholarship
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cape Town provides comprehensive scholarships to academically talented young people from Africa who will contribute to the transformation of the continent. UCT is Africa’s highest-ranked university and is located on one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. The programme goes beyond financial support, providing academic and social support, mentorship, and leadership development to help scholars reach their full potential.
Eligibility
Must be a citizen of a sub-Saharan African country. Must be under 35 years of age at the time of application. Must have demonstrated academic talent and potential. Must demonstrate financial need. Must show commitment to giving back to their communities and contributing to Africa's development. Must meet UCT's admission requirements for the chosen programme. Must not already hold a qualification at the same level being applied for.
Benefits & Coverage
Full tuition and mandatory fees, accommodation, monthly living stipend, textbook and study materials allowance, travel to and from home country, laptop allowance, medical insurance, psychosocial support, academic tutoring and mentorship, leadership development programme, career preparation support, transition support after graduation

How to Apply
- Be an academically talented young African from an economically disadvantaged background with leadership potential, applying as a first-time undergraduate or postgraduate (honours/master's) student
- First apply for academic admission to UCT to obtain your UCT application code
- Then complete the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application online via the UCT MCF portal (passing the eligibility quiz) during the annual call (around July to September); scholars commit to returning to their home countries
