About this scholarship

The Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of the People’s Republic of China offers fully funded scholarships to young and mid-career professionals from developing countries to pursue Master’s or PhD degrees at partner Chinese universities. The program aims to train experts who will contribute to the development of their home countries. Fields include economics, public administration, international trade, finance, agriculture, environmental science, and more. This is one of the most comprehensive China-based scholarship programs.

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of an eligible developing country (list available from the Chinese Embassy)
  • Must be under 45 years old for Master's and under 50 for PhD applicants
  • Must hold a bachelor's degree (for Master's) or master's degree (for PhD) with strong academic results
  • Must have at least 2 years of work experience (some programs require more)
  • Must be currently employed in a relevant field
  • Must be in good physical and mental health
  • Must not be enrolled in any other degree program at the time of application
  • Must have sufficient English or Chinese language proficiency to undertake studies

Required Documents

Completed application form (MOFCOM/CSC format), Highest degree certificate and official transcripts (notarized copies), Study plan or research proposal (800+ words), Two recommendation letters from professors or senior professionals, Foreigner Physical Examination Form (standard medical check), English proficiency certificate (IELTS/TOEFL) or Chinese proficiency (HSK), Employer recommendation or nomination letter, Valid passport copy with at least 18 months validity, Passport-sized photographs (digital and printed)

How to Apply

  • Be a citizen of an eligible developing country, in good health, typically a mid-career official or professional under about 45 with a relevant degree (bachelor's for master's, master's for doctoral) and work experience
  • Register online via the CSC Study in China portal, selecting the MOFCOM programme category and agency number 00010 and up to three universities/majors
  • Submit the application and documents to the dispatching authority or Chinese Embassy in your country by the deadline; programmes are taught in English
