Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship (Women in STEM)

The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship is a fully funded PhD and postdoctoral award for women in STEM from developing and emerging countries. It funds doctoral or postdoctoral research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at leading universities abroad, with grants of up to USD 50,000 per year sized to actual study and living costs.

The fellowship exists to build a pipeline of women who return home to take up faculty positions and inspire the next generation into science. Since 2004 it has supported more than 800 women from over 80 countries, and it renews yearly until the degree is complete. Applications for the 2027 award year are open until November 6, 2026.

• Woman and a citizen of an eligible developing or emerging economy where women are underrepresented in STEM; the country list is reviewed every year on the Foundation's website.
• Not a holder of dual citizenship where one citizenship is of a developed country.
• Preparing for a PhD degree or post-doctoral research in science, technology, engineering or mathematics; the current call especially welcomes Physical Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics.
• Applied to, admitted to, or currently enrolled at a university or research institute abroad (outside your home country) at the time of application.
• Excellent academic record with demonstrated leadership, community outreach, and a track record of encouraging girls and women into STEM.
• Committed to returning to your home country after the fellowship to strengthen STEM teaching, research or policy there.
• Master's-level study is not funded, and awards in biological sciences are limited to interdisciplinary research with the physical sciences.

• Grant based on actual eligible expenses, up to USD 50,000 per year for PhD studies and up to USD 40,000 per year for post-doctoral research.
• Renewable each year through to completion, subject to performance, supervisor recommendations and evidence of re-integration plans in the home country.
• Covers costs such as tuition and fees, living expenses, travel and other approved study costs at your host university.
• Membership of a global community of more than 900 Faculty for the Future alumnae from over 90 countries.
• Strong career signal: the programme is one of the best-known fellowships for women scientists from the Global South.

• Academic CV and full academic transcripts.
• Proof of application, admission or enrollment at a university or research institute abroad.
• A clear research statement and budget describing your PhD or post-doc plans.
• Reference letters submitted through the online system.
• Evidence of leadership, outreach and activities encouraging women and girls in STEM strengthens the file.
• Information on any other funding sources you have applied for or hold.

• Check the current eligible-country list and the application criteria on the Schlumberger Foundation website.
• Secure your place first: apply to, or gain admission at, a university or research institute abroad for your PhD or post-doc.
• Create an account on the online application portal when the call opens on September 1, 2026 and complete the form in English.
• Upload all documents and register your referees well before the deadline of November 6, 2026; late submissions are not accepted.
• Applications pass through four review rounds; results are announced in early April 2027.
• If unsuccessful, you may strengthen your file and apply again in a future call.
