About this scholarship
Stipendium Hungaricum is the Hungarian Government’s flagship scholarship program offering full funding for international students at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD levels at Hungarian universities. The program has bilateral agreements with over 85 sending countries. Hungary offers high-quality European education at a fraction of the cost of Western Europe, with programs taught in English, French, German, and Hungarian. Eligibility
Must be a citizen of an eligible sending partner country (85+ countries — check the list). Must not hold Hungarian citizenship. Must meet the academic requirements of the chosen program. For undergraduate: completed secondary education. For Master's: bachelor's degree. For PhD: master's degree. Must be proficient in the language of instruction (English B2 or higher for English-taught programs). Age limits may apply depending on the bilateral agreement. Must not have previously received a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship at the same level of study.
Benefits & Coverage
Full tuition coverage at the chosen Hungarian university, monthly stipend: HUF 43,700 for undergraduate, HUF 140,000 for PhD (amounts vary by level), free or subsidized dormitory accommodation (or HUF 40,000/month housing contribution), comprehensive medical insurance, no tuition or registration fees

Completed online application form, Academic transcripts from prior institutions (with official translations), Degree certificates, Motivation letter, Medical certificate (fit for study), Language proficiency certificate (IELTS/TOEFL for English programs), Copy of passport or national ID, Research plan (for PhD applicants), Two recommendation letters, CV/Resume (for Master's and PhD), Nomination/endorsement from sending partner (if required by your country)
How to Apply
- Apply through a dual process: submit the online application via the Tempus Public Foundation system AND apply through your country's Sending Partner (the responsible ministry/agency), each with its own requirements and deadlines
- Choose up to two study programmes in order of preference
- Universities may hold entrance exams; doctoral applicants should secure a supervisor
