About this scholarship

The University of British Columbia offers International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) to exceptional international students entering undergraduate programmes. These merit-based awards are valued at $10,000 to $25,000 per year and are renewable for up to three additional years of study. UBC is ranked in the world’s top 35 and has one of the most beautiful campuses on Earth, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and North Shore Mountains in Vancouver.

Eligibility

Must be an international student (not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen). Must be applying for a full-time undergraduate programme at UBC. Must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and strong extracurricular involvement. Must not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

UBC undergraduate application for admission, Academic transcripts from secondary school, English language proficiency (IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL 90), Personal profile (part of UBC application), No separate scholarship application needed

How to Apply

  • Be a new international student entering a UBC undergraduate programme directly from secondary or post-secondary school, studying on a Canadian study permit, with exceptional academic achievement and strong extracurricular/community involvement (and not nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award)
  • There is no separate application: apply for UBC undergraduate admission by the deadline (around 15 January) and you are automatically considered
  • Awards (around CAD 10,000 to 25,000/year) are decided after an admission offer, between mid-March and the end of April
