Université de Montréal Exemption Scholarship (Canada)

The Université de Montréal Exemption Scholarship automatically reduces international tuition for admitted students at Canada’s leading francophone research university, with no scholarship application at all. Undergraduate awards reach about CAD 13,740 per year, graduate awards range up to full exemption to the Quebec rate, worth about CAD 22,900 per year for the strongest files.

Every eligible admitted international student is assessed on academic record alone, and the award letter arrives shortly after you accept admission, renewing across the whole programme with full-time study. Most programs are taught in French. Apply for the autumn 2027 intake by February 1, 2027 (September 1, 2026 for the winter intake).

• International students admitted to a full-time degree programme (bachelor's, master's or PhD) at Université de Montréal; French and French-speaking Belgian citizens are excluded because they already pay Quebec rates.
• Not applicable to independent studies, certificates, minors, short programmes or preparatory-year study.
• Automatic evaluation: every eligible admitted candidate is assessed, and the strength of your academic record on the transcripts in your admission file is the only criterion.
• Undergraduate awards come in two levels (Level A about CAD 13,740 per year; Level B about CAD 6,548 per year), and files below Level B receive no award.

• Holding valid study authorizations (CAQ and study permit) for every session, staying continuously enrolled full time, and not combining with another tuition exemption.
• Most programmes are taught in French, so French proficiency is required for admission to the majority of degrees.
