About this scholarship
The University of Edinburgh, ranked 27th globally, offers Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships to outstanding international PhD students. The scholarship covers the difference between home and overseas tuition fees and provides a generous living stipend. Edinburgh is one of the world’s most beautiful cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The university has produced 20 Nobel Prize laureates and is a global leader in AI, medicine, and the humanities.
Eligibility
Must be an international (non-UK) student liable to pay overseas tuition fees. Must have applied for a full-time PhD programme at the University of Edinburgh. Must demonstrate outstanding academic ability and research potential. Open to all academic disciplines.

How to Apply
- Be an international student liable to pay tuition at the overseas rate, commencing a full-time PhD in any field at the University of Edinburgh, of outstanding academic merit and research potential (a UK first-class/2:1 honours degree or international equivalent, ideally with a strong master's), and not holding another scholarship
- First apply for admission to a full-time PhD programme, then submit the online Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship application through the MyEd portal by the deadline (around February)
- The award covers the difference between the home and overseas tuition-fee rates (it does not cover living costs), renewable for up to three years subject to progress
