About this scholarship
The Eric Bleumink Fund at the University of Groningen provides fully funded scholarships to exceptionally talented students from developing countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Groningen. Named after the university’s former president, the fund aims to contribute to capacity building in developing nations by offering outstanding graduates an opportunity to study at one of the Netherlands’ top research universities (ranked in the global top 100). The scholarship is awarded for 1-2 year Master’s programs across all faculties.
Eligibility
- Must be a national of a developing country (as defined by the World Bank)
- Must have received an unconditional offer of admission to a full-time Master's program at the University of Groningen
- Must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement (typically top 10% of your graduating class)
- Must not have previously studied in the Netherlands
- Must return to your home country after completing the program to contribute to its development
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be proficient in English (IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 90+)

Proof of admission to a Master's program at University of Groningen, Academic transcripts with GPA/class ranking, Bachelor's degree certificate, Motivation letter (max 1000 words), CV/Resume, Two academic reference letters, English language proficiency certificate (IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 90+), Passport copy, Proof of nationality from an eligible developing country
How to Apply
- Be a national of an eligible developing/least-developed country with excellent academic performance, strong English proficiency, financial need (no other means to fund the study), and good health
- You cannot apply directly: apply to an eligible University of Groningen master's programme (completing the application before 1 December) and obtain a provisional or unconditional admission offer before February, after which the Admission Office and faculty boards nominate the strongest candidates
- The fund is fully funded: tuition, international travel, living allowance, books, and health insurance
