About this scholarship

The University of Helsinki, Finland’s oldest and largest university (ranked in the global top 100), offers scholarships to excellent non-EU/EEA students admitted to English-taught Master’s programmes. Scholarships range from full tuition waivers to partial fee reductions. Finland is consistently ranked as the world’s happiest country with an excellent quality of life and innovative education system.

Eligibility

Must be a non-EU/EEA citizen required to pay tuition fees. Must have applied for an English-taught Master's programme at the University of Helsinki. Must demonstrate excellent academic achievement in prior studies. Must meet the admission requirements of the chosen programme.

Benefits & Coverage

Full tuition fee waiver (covering fees of €13,000-€18,000/year) or partial tuition fee waiver (50%). Some scholarships include a living allowance of €10,000 for the first year. Access to one of Europe's top research universities. Finnish Residence Permit allows part-time work during studies. Pathway to post-study work permit in Finland.

How to Apply

  • Be a non-EU/EEA/Swiss student liable to pay tuition fees, eligible for and applying to an eligible English-taught international master's programme at the University of Helsinki, with excellent previous results and motivation
  • There is no separate scholarship form: answer the scholarship questions within the same master's application on Studyinfo.fi during the application round (around mid-January) and submit the required attachments by the document deadline
  • Programmes award 50% or 100% tuition-fee waivers (the majority are 50%); a limited number of Finland Scholarships add a 100% waiver plus a EUR 5,000 relocation grant. The scholarships do not cover living costs
