University of Helsinki International Scholarship

The University of Helsinki, Finland’s leading research university, offers scholarships to non-EU/EEA international students undertaking English-taught master’s programmes. The awards are tuition-fee waivers (with some including a relocation grant) that reward academic excellence and help international students afford study in Finland.

The award is partial funding, providing a full or partial (50 percent) tuition fee waiver (covering fees of around 13,000 to 18,000 euros a year), renewable on completing about 55 ECTS per year; a limited number of Finland Scholarships add a 100 percent waiver plus a 5,000-euro relocation grant. The scholarships do not cover living costs, but a Finnish residence permit allows part-time work and a pathway to a post-study work permit.

Eligibility is for non-EU/EEA/Swiss students liable to pay tuition fees, eligible for and applying to an eligible English-taught master’s programme at Helsinki, with excellent previous results and motivation. There is no separate scholarship form: you answer the scholarship questions within the same master’s application on Studyinfo.fi during the application round (around mid-January) and submit the required attachments by the document deadline. Programmes award 50 or 100 percent tuition-fee waivers (the majority are 50 percent). For non-EU master’s students aiming at Finland, it is a valuable tuition award.
