University of São Paulo International Mobility Scholarship
About this scholarship
The University of São Paulo (USP), Latin America’s top-ranked university, offers international mobility scholarships for graduate students who wish to study or conduct research at USP. Tuition is already free at USP for all students, so this scholarship provides additional living support. The program covers Master’s and PhD students across all faculties. São Paulo is Brazil’s economic powerhouse and one of the largest cities in the world, offering a vibrant cultural scene and diverse research opportunities.
Eligibility
Open to international students from all countries. Must hold or be completing a Bachelor's degree (for Master's) or Master's degree (for PhD). Must be accepted into a USP graduate program. Portuguese language skills are recommended but not always required (many programs accept English-speaking students). Strong academic record required.
Benefits & Coverage

- Monthly stipend of approximately R$2,200 (Master's) or R$3,300 (PhD)

How to Apply
- Be a student enrolled at a foreign higher education institution that has an exchange agreement with USP (from your second year of study onward)
- You cannot apply directly as an individual: your home institution must officially nominate you through USP's registration platform (Mundus), after which USP schools/institutes process the application and issue a letter of acceptance
- Tuition is waived at USP (USP is tuition-free), though students generally fund their own travel and living costs. Follow the nomination deadlines and conditions for the relevant semester
