About this scholarship
The Sydney Scholars India Equity Scholarship and University of Sydney International Research Scholarship support exceptional international research students pursuing Master’s by Research or PhD degrees at one of Australia’s top universities.
Eligibility
- Outstanding academic record (First Class Honours equivalent)
- Strong research proposal aligned with university research strengths
- English proficiency (IELTS 7.0 overall)
- Open to all nationalities

How to Apply
- Be a commencing or enrolled international student with an outstanding academic record and research potential, holding an unconditional offer or enrolled in a Master's by Research or PhD at the University of Sydney
- New students tick the scholarship consideration box when submitting the online higher-degree-by-research admission application by the deadline (for example, around mid-September for research periods 1 and 2, or mid-to-late December for periods 3 and 4); there is no separate form, while current students apply via the enrolled-research-students portal
- Covers tuition plus a living stipend (around AUD 41,753 to 42,754/year at 2025-2026 rates, indexed), a relocation allowance, and a thesis allowance
