Details of the 2024 Canon Collins RMTF Scholarship
The Canon Collins Trust, in partnership with the Ros Moger and Terry Furlong group, invites applications for postgraduate studies in South Africa in 2024. The scholarship aims to honor the legacy of Ros and Terry, who were inspirational London educationalists. Since 2001, friends and family have raised funds in their memory to award scholarships in their name.
In 2024, the scholarship will focus on three areas:
- Justice: Including Climate Justice, Law, Economics, and Politics
- Education Policy and Practice
- Humanities: Including Literature, History, Anthropology, and the Arts
Applicants must ensure their program of study falls into one of these disciplines.

Eligibility Requirements to study in Africa
To be eligible for the 2024 Canon Collins RMTF Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a national of, or have refugee status in, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, or Zambia
- Be normally resident in one of the above countries
- Hold a good first degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or be about to graduate in the year of application
- Be studying or applying to study at a South African university
Applicants from Namibia, South Africa, or Zimbabwe should apply for the Canon Collins Sol Plaatje scholarship instead.
Scholarship Duration and Benefits
The value of the scholarship package ranges from R20,000 to R100,000, depending on student circumstances, for both full and part-time study. The scholarship provides funding for up to two years for Master’s students and three years for PhD students. Applications for distance learning are also considered.
In addition to financial support, the Foundation organizes an annual conference for current scholars and several smaller events throughout the year. Scholarship holders are expected to participate in these activities and contribute to the network.
