Scholarship Details
Drs. Elizabeth Gow and David Green are seeking a dedicated PhD student to join their research teams through the Simon Fraser University Scholarship. Their research focuses on urban non-breeding sparrow species, such as golden-crowned sparrows, dark-eyed juncos, spotted towhees, and American robins, using mark-recapture datasets and motus tracking data.

Eligibility Requirements for study in Canada
To be eligible for the 2024 Simon Fraser University Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be proficient in handling, banding, and aging passerines to obtain a bird banding sub-permit within the first year of their PhD.
- Be willing to work and live in Metro Vancouver and conduct fieldwork during the winter.
- Be eager to engage with the public in various settings, including people’s yards and public areas.
- Have experience in using GIS and R, and have fieldwork experience in ecology.
- Possess strong BC bird identification skills by sight and sound.
- Be capable of managing and leading large field crews, including scheduling and communicating with diverse team members.
