Durham University Evans Global Fellowship Details

The Evans Global Fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for early career journalists to be mentored by top Reuters editors. The fellowship is overseen by Durham University and provides access to academic resources and research support.

Created in honor of Sir Harry Evans, a pioneer of modern investigative journalism, the fellowship aims to enhance rigorous, fact-based research and reporting skills. Fellows will be employed by Durham University and placed in the Reuters newsroom in London or with another suitable partner selected by Reuters.

Eligibility Requirements for study in UK

To qualify for the Durham University Global Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be early in their careers with professional journalism experience.
  • Applications from those who have worked in investigative reporting in related fields (e.g., human rights, socio-political publications, authors of investigative works, photo/video research projects) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Fellowship Duration and Rewards

The fellowship offers:

  • A monthly salary of approximately £4,444 (equivalent to a pro-rata annual salary of £53,333).
  • A living stipend of up to £1,250 per month.
  • A one-off payment of £1,800 for travel and expenses.
  • Employment at Durham University with placements in Reuters newsroom or another suitable partner.
  • An academic supervisor and mentor at Durham University.
  • Up to £12,000 paid to the applicant’s employer to cover temporary staff costs if the applicant is taking leave from their current job.

Evans Global Fellowship Required Documents

  • A short statement (up to 500 words) about themselves, their goals, and their vision of journalism.
