Visa Information
- Student visa (subclass 500): accept your offer to get a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), then apply online; the fee is from AUD 2,500 per application from 1 July 2026
- Funds: show at least AUD 29,710 a year for living costs (the amount in force in 2026), plus course fees and travel, and hold Overseas Student Health Cover
- Work: up to 48 hours a fortnight while your course is in session and unlimited hours in scheduled breaks; master's by research and PhD students have no limit
- After study: the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), Post-Higher Education Work stream, usually lasts 2 to 3 years depending on your degree; you must be 35 or under
- New student numbers are managed: the 2026 National Planning Level is 295,000 new overseas students, and offshore visa applications are processed under Ministerial Direction 115
Study requirements
- A completed secondary school certificate for bachelor's (some school systems need a foundation year first), or a relevant bachelor's degree for master's
- IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic or another test the university accepts; the student visa also sets its own minimum English test scores
- Official transcripts and certificates, with certified translations if they are not in English
- Apply online through the university or a registered education agent; postgraduates also send a CV, statement of purpose and references
- Accept your offer to receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), then apply for the Student visa (subclass 500) with Overseas Student Health Cover; the Genuine Student requirement applies
- A valid passport and proof of funds for course fees, travel and living costs (AUD 29,710 a year in 2026)
Student life
Most international students live in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or Canberra, where rent is the biggest cost and shared housing is common. Cities have reliable public transport and multicultural communities, with a warm climate in the north and cooler winters in the south. Students can work up to 48 hours a fortnight in term, and casual jobs in hospitality and retail are common. High rents and housing shortages in Sydney and Melbourne are a real caveat, so arrange accommodation early.
