Student life

Addis Ababa hosts the main universities and the African Union, so the city has a large international community. The birr was floated in July 2024 and has lost much of its value, so prices in birr change quickly and budgeting in dollars is safer. The highlands are mild all year, with the main rains from June to September. Parts of Amhara and Oromia have ongoing insecurity, so check government travel advice.
