Student life
Yogyakarta is the classic student city, while Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Malang also host many universities, and living costs are low outside central Jakarta. Basic Bahasa Indonesia is quick to pick up, which helps a lot in daily life. Jakarta traffic is heavy, ride-hailing motorbikes are the usual way around, and the climate is hot and humid with a rainy season from about November to March. Domestic flights make travel across the islands affordable.
