Visa Information

  • Students who need a visa get a student visa at a Kazakh embassy, using an invitation the university obtains from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after admission.
  • Visa-exempt nationals still need their stay registered for the study period; the university usually arranges this.
  • The student visa is usually issued for one academic year with multiple entries and must be renewed each year.
  • Show proof of funds or paid tuition and health insurance, as the embassy requests.

Study requirements

  • A completed secondary school certificate for bachelor's, or a relevant bachelor's degree for master's
  • English-taught programs: IELTS, TOEFL or another test the university accepts; Kazakh or Russian-taught programs: proficiency in the language or a preparatory year
  • Official transcripts and certificates, with certified translations if they are not in English or Kazakh
  • Medicine: check your home regulator first; India's NMC requires at least 54 months of study taught in English, a 12-month internship at the same university and a licence to practise in that country
  • Apply through the university's international admissions office
  • Apply for a student visa or residence permit with the university's invitation letter, where your nationality needs one

Student life

Almaty is the largest and most established student city, set below the mountains, while Astana is the newer capital with very cold winters. Costs are low by European standards and public transport is cheap. Russian is widely used in daily life alongside Kazakh, so learning some Russian helps. Kazakhstan is a practical base for travel across Central Asia, and medical students should confirm their program meets their home regulator's rules.
