Visa Information
- Degree students aged 18 or over need a 9(f) student visa, issued on the school's Notice of Acceptance at a Philippine embassy or by conversion through the Bureau of Immigration
- Short or non-degree courses, and students under 18, use a Special Study Permit (SSP) instead
- Your school must be authorised to admit foreign students, and 9(f) holders also register for an ACR I-Card
- No fixed funds figure is published; show proof that you can pay tuition and living costs
Study requirements
- A completed secondary school certificate for bachelor's, and a relevant bachelor's degree for master's; medicine (MD) needs a prior bachelor's degree and the NMAT
- English: IELTS, TOEFL or another test the university accepts, unless English is your first language or you studied in English
- Some universities set their own entrance test
- Apply through the university's online admission system
- Official transcripts and certificates, apostilled or authenticated and with certified translations if they are not in English
- A valid passport, proof of funds and the school's Notice of Acceptance for the 9(f) student visa
Student life
Metro Manila, Cebu, Iloilo, Baguio and Dumaguete host large student populations, and teaching in English removes most language barriers. Living costs are low outside central Manila, though Manila traffic is heavy and jeepneys, buses and ride-hailing apps are the usual transport. The typhoon season runs from about June to November and can close classes. Check current government travel advice, which warns against travel to parts of Mindanao.
