Study in Turkey

Turkey offers affordable education and the fully-funded Turkiye Burslari scholarship for international students.

• Apply for a Turkish student visa at a consulate with your acceptance letter, then for a student residence permit (ikamet) through e-ikamet after arrival, usually within a month.
• Show proof of funds or a scholarship award, and hold health insurance, for the residence permit.
• Associate and bachelor's students need a work permit and may work only after their first year; master's and PhD students can apply for one earlier.
• There is no dedicated post-study work visa; graduates need an employer-sponsored work permit.

• A completed secondary school certificate for bachelor's, or a relevant bachelor's degree for master's
• Turkish-taught programs: a Turkish C1 certificate or a one-year Turkish preparatory course; English-taught programs: IELTS, TOEFL or the university's own English exam (many offer a preparatory year)
• International applicants are admitted on YOS, SAT or national exam results, depending on the university
• Official transcripts and certificates, with certified translations if they are not in English or Turkish
• Apply through the university's international student (YOS) application system; the Türkiye Bursları government scholarship has its own separate application

Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Konya and Eskişehir are the main student cities, and food, public transport and cultural life are inexpensive by European standards. High inflation means prices in lira change quickly, and Istanbul rents have risen sharply. Türkiye Bursları scholars receive tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend and a one-year Turkish course. Areas near the Syrian border carry travel warnings, so check your government's current advice.
