Visa Information

  • Students need a student visa from a Venezuelan consulate before travel; consular services are limited or suspended in some countries
  • Several governments advise against all or all but essential travel to most of the country; check current government travel advice before applying
  • Confirm with the university that your program is running and that it can issue the documents a visa requires

Study requirements

  • A completed secondary school certificate for bachelor's, a relevant bachelor's degree for master's, and usually a master's for a PhD
  • Spanish-taught programs (nearly all): Spanish proficiency such as DELE or SIELE; the few English-taught programs ask for IELTS, TOEFL or another accepted test
  • Official transcripts and certificates, with certified translations if they are not in English or Spanish
  • Foreign school certificates and degrees usually need an apostille and recognition before you enrol
  • Apply through the university's admission office; many public universities set their own entrance exam
  • For the visa: passport, acceptance letter and proof of funds; confirm the current requirements with the consulate

Student life

Caracas, Mérida, Valencia and Maracaibo host the main universities, which have lost many staff during the long economic and political crisis. The situation remains unsettled in 2026, and power, water and transport can be unreliable. Many prices are set in US dollars rather than bolívars. Several governments advise against all but essential travel, so check current advice and confirm that programs are running before making plans.
