    University of British Columbia Public Scholarship Award 2024/2025 | How To Apply

    The University of British Columbia Public Scholarship invites doctoral students to apply for the 2024/25 Public Scholars Initiative (PSI). This award fosters innovative and publicly beneficial scholarship across all disciplines.

    Key Dates and Information Session

    • Application Period: Open from Monday, March 11 to Sunday, May 12.

    University of British Columbia Public Scholarship Award Highlights

    • Funding: Up to $20,000 per student, divided over two potential awards.
    • Purpose: Supports innovative/collaborative research and professional development.
    • Cohort: Up to 30 new students from all faculties at UBC and UBCO will be supported annually.

    Special Funding Stream

    • Health Equity Stream: Dedicated funding for projects addressing health equity, in partnership with UBC Health.

    University of British Columbia Public Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

    • Doctoral students (PhD, EdD, DMA) at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan.
    • Must be in years 1-5 of doctoral study, with less than 48 months completed by August 31, 2023.
    • Registered in a UBC doctoral program as of September 1, 2023.
    • Exceptions for 6th-year applicants considered under extraordinary circumstances.

    Evaluation Criteria

    • Student’s Profile: Past accomplishments and future potential.
    • Project Alignment: Relationship to PSI goals, including extending work beyond academia and contributing to the public good.
    • Scholarship Quality: Expertise level, goals clarity, preparation, methods, and potential impact.

    Application Process

    1. Download Application Files: Available under ‘Further Information’ from the start of the application window.
    2. Complete Application Form: Follow guidelines for sections on proposed scholarly work and PSI goals relationship.
    3. Upload Documents: Submit the application form and Canadian Common CV as one PDF to the specified Qualtrics page.
    4. Letters of Support: Mandatory supervisor letter and optional collaborator letters submitted via a separate Qualtrics link.

    Adjudication

    • Conducted by a multi-disciplinary committee from the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
    • Funding decisions announced in the second half of July.
