Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2027 (Canada)

Applications are open now and close on 16 September 2026 at 1:00 pm Pacific time. Late submissions are not accepted, and this is one of the earliest-closing major internship programmes of the 2027 cycle — most others do not open until October.

Globalink is Mitacs’ flagship inbound programme: a 12-week research internship at a Canadian university, hosted by a faculty member and funded by Mitacs. Unlike most international research internships, it is not STEM-only. Projects run from science, engineering and mathematics through to the humanities and social sciences, so a history or policy undergraduate is as eligible as a physicist.

The requirement that catches most applicants is structural rather than academic: you must apply to between three and ten projects, drawn from at least three different Canadian provinces. An application concentrated in one province is invalid regardless of how strong it is. Eligibility also varies by your country of study — both the number of semesters you must have remaining and the GPA threshold are set per partner country, so read your own country’s page rather than the general one.

The longer-term value is the pipeline. Globalink alumni become eligible for further Mitacs funding at master’s and PhD level in Canada, which makes this one of the more reliable routes from an undergraduate degree into Canadian graduate study.

• Undergraduate students enrolled at institutions in one of Mitacs' partner countries.
• You must have between one and three semesters remaining in your programme as of autumn 2027 — requirements vary by country, so check your own country's page.
• You must meet the GPA requirement set for your country of study; these differ between partner countries.
• You must be fluent in the working language of the project, English and/or French, well enough to carry out research in it.
• You must be available for 12 consecutive weeks, starting between May 1 and July 31, 2027.
• You are not eligible if you have already held a Globalink Research Internship.

• Work on a research project hosted by a faculty member at a Canadian university, chosen from the Globalink project database.
• Projects span science, engineering and mathematics through to the humanities and social sciences, so this is not a STEM-only programme.
• You apply to between three and ten projects, and your selections must come from at least three different Canadian provinces.
• You spend 12 consecutive weeks embedded in the host research group.

• A funded 12-week research placement at a Canadian university.
• Hands-on experience inside an active research group, supervised by faculty.
• A recognised route into Canadian graduate study — Globalink alumni are eligible for further Mitacs funding at master's and PhD level.
• An international research network built before you finish your undergraduate degree.

• Check your eligibility on your own country's Mitacs page first — semester count and GPA requirements differ by country and are the most common reason applications are rejected.
• Browse the Globalink project database and shortlist projects that genuinely match your background.
• Select between three and ten projects from at least three different Canadian provinces. Fewer than three provinces makes the application invalid.
• Prepare your transcript, CV and a statement for each project. Write to the specific project, not a generic pitch.
• Submit before Wednesday 16 September 2026 at 1:00 pm Pacific time. Applications are not accepted after the deadline.
