Kino Eyes – The European Fiction Master (KEM)
About this scholarship
Kino Eyes – The European Fiction Master (KEM) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master funded by the European Union under Erasmus+. Like every EMJM it is delivered by a consortium of at least three universities in three different countries: you study at two or more of them and graduate with a joint or multiple degree recognised across the whole consortium.
Scholarship holders pay no tuition and receive €1,400 a month for up to 24 months, a maximum of €33,600. The award is competitive and decided on the consortium’s own ranking of applicants.
Entry requirements, the mobility track and the application deadline are set by this consortium rather than by the EU, so they are only reliable on the programme’s own site: http://www.kinoeyes.eu/. Its Erasmus+ grant reference is 619799-EPP-1-2020-1-PT-EPPKA1-JMD-MOB.
Check the deadline and confirm that the current intake is actually funded before you apply. A consortium’s EU funding runs in multi-year editions, and some intakes admit students without offering scholarships.
Eligibility
- Open to applicants of any nationality. There is no age limit.
- You must hold a bachelor's degree, or be in the final year of one and able to graduate before the programme begins.
- You must meet the academic entry requirements set by this specific consortium — these vary by programme.
- Proof of English proficiency is normally required (IELTS or TOEFL) unless you are exempt through prior study in English.
- You may apply to a maximum of three Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters in the same application cycle.
- You cannot hold an EMJM scholarship if you have already received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship before.
- You cannot receive another EU-funded grant at the same time as an EMJM scholarship.
- Geographical balance rules apply: consortia cap the scholarships awarded to any single nationality.
Benefits & Coverage
- Participation costs waived in full — no tuition, and no mandatory programme fees.
- Monthly subsistence contribution of €1,400 for the entire study period, up to 24 months.
- Maximum total scholarship of €33,600 for a two-year (120 ECTS) programme.
- Insurance coverage arranged by the consortium for the duration of your studies.
- An optional travel and installation contribution, usually three advance instalments of €1,000. This is deducted from your total award rather than added to it, so choosing it lowers your monthly stipend.

- Extra support is available for students with disabilities or other individual needs.

How to Apply
- Check the programme's own website first. There is no central Erasmus Mundus application — each consortium runs its own portal and sets its own deadline.
- Confirm this intake is actually funded. A consortium's EU funding runs in multi-year editions, and some intakes admit students without offering scholarships. This is the most important thing to verify.
- Prepare a motivation letter written for this consortium specifically, naming its curriculum, partner universities and mobility track.
- Apply through the consortium's portal and tick the box asking to be considered for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. Missing that checkbox is a common and costly mistake.
- Submit before the consortium's deadline. Most fall between November and January for a September start the following year.
- Expect results roughly three to five months after the deadline, usually in spring.
- You may apply to up to three EMJM programmes per cycle — rank them by fit, not only by prestige.
