Study in Bosnia and Herzegovina

• Non-EU students need temporary residence for study from the Service for Foreigners' Affairs; nationals who need a visa first get one with the admission letter.
• Show proof of funds, health insurance and accommodation for the period of study.
• Bosnia and Herzegovina is outside the EU and Schengen area, so the permit does not cover living in EU countries.

• A completed secondary school certificate for bachelor's, or a relevant bachelor's degree for master's
• English-taught programs: IELTS, TOEFL or another test the university accepts; Bosnian-taught programs: Bosnian proficiency or a preparatory language year
• Foreign school certificates and degrees usually need recognition by the national authority
• Official transcripts and certificates, with certified translations if they are not in English or Bosnian
• Apply through the university's online application
• Non-EU students apply for a long-stay (D) visa or residence permit for study with the university's acceptance letter, proof of funds and health insurance

Sarajevo is compact and inexpensive, with Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian quarters side by side and the 1984 Winter Olympic ski slopes about half an hour away. Mostar, Banja Luka and Tuzla also host universities. Winters are cold, and Sarajevo's air quality can be poor in winter. The sector is small and English-taught options are few, so check program recognition with your home authority before committing.
