About this scholarship

The Taiwan Scholarship is offered by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education to encourage international students to undertake undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral study at Taiwanese universities. It supports degree study with a tuition subsidy and a monthly stipend, and is administered through Taiwan’s representative offices abroad.

The award provides a tuition and academic fee subsidy of up to 40,000 New Taiwan dollars per semester (you pay any excess) and a monthly stipend of 15,000 dollars for undergraduates or 20,000 for graduate students, for up to the standard length of the degree (four years for a bachelor’s, two for a master’s, up to four for a PhD). Scholars study across a wide range of fields in Chinese-taught or English-taught programmes.

Eligibility is for international students holding a foreign nationality (with restrictions for those with prior Taiwan residency or ROC nationality) who are not currently enrolled at a Taiwanese institution at the same level, who meet the admission requirements of their chosen universities, and who apply through the Taiwan representative office serving their country. You apply separately for admission to Taiwanese universities and submit the Taiwan Scholarship application to your local representative office between 1 February and 31 March, with results announced around May to June; the scholarship starts with the autumn semester.
