About this scholarship
The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) provides full scholarships for graduate study in development-related fields at universities around the world. Designed for mid-career professionals from developing countries.
Eligibility
- National of a World Bank member developing country.
- Not a dual citizen of a developed country.
- Under 45 years old.
- Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of development-related work experience.
- Currently employed in development.
Benefits & Coverage
- Full tuition fees at a partner university
- Monthly stipend for living expenses (~$1,000–$2,000/month depending on location)
- Round-trip economy airfare
- Health insurance coverage
- Covers books and materials
- Duration: 1–2 years for Master's programs
- Post-scholarship return obligation: must return to home country for at least 2 years
- Access to the World Bank JJ/WBGSP alumni network of 4,700+ scholars

How to Apply
- Be a citizen of an eligible World Bank member developing country (no dual citizenship with a developed country) with at least 3 years of recent development-related work experience
- First gain unconditional admission to one of the JJ/WBGSP participating master's programmes and be shortlisted by that university
- The scholarship application link is then sent to eligible shortlisted candidates to apply online
- Scholars commit to return home to contribute to development
