About this scholarship

The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) provides full scholarships to citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science, technology, and other development-related fields at selected partner institutions across Asia and the Pacific. Funded by the Government of Japan, this program has supported over 4,000 scholars since 1988. Partner institutions include top universities in Japan, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, India, and other Asian countries.

Eligibility

Must be a national of an ADB borrowing member country (includes most countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and the Pacific). Must have gained admission to an approved Master's-level course at a partner institution. Must have at least 2 years of full-time professional working experience (after bachelor's degree) in a development-related field. Must hold a bachelor's degree. Must agree to return to home country after completing the scholarship to contribute to development. Must not be an executive director, staff, or consultant of ADB. Must be under 35 years old at the time of application.

Required Documents

Completed application form for both the institution and the ADB-JSP scholarship, Academic transcripts from all prior institutions, Bachelor's degree certificate, Proof of professional work experience (employment certificates), Statement of purpose explaining how the program relates to your country's development needs, Two recommendation letters (one from current employer), English language proficiency certificate (IELTS/TOEFL), CV/Resume with detailed work history, Proof of citizenship, Medical fitness certificate

  • Do not apply to ADB directly
  • Choose a participating ADB-JSP designated institution and an eligible programme
  • Request application forms and scholarship information from that institution
  • Submit your application to the institution at least six months before the programme start
