Stipendium Hungaricum
About this scholarship
Stipendium Hungaricum is the Hungarian Government’s flagship international scholarship programme, managed by the Tempus Public Foundation. It brings thousands of students from partner countries to study in Hungary each year, across bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and other levels, as part of Hungary’s commitment to internationalising its higher education.
The award is fully funded, covering full tuition, a monthly living stipend (around 130,000 forints and more for higher levels), accommodation support or a contribution, health insurance, and in some cases a research or conference allowance, for the duration of the chosen programme. Scholars study at Hungarian universities across a wide range of disciplines.
Eligibility is for international students from partner countries who demonstrate strong academic performance (typically a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent), meet the English (or relevant language) requirement, and satisfy any country-specific requirements. A distinctive feature is the dual application: you submit the online application via the Tempus Public Foundation system and also apply through your country’s Sending Partner (the responsible ministry or agency), each with its own requirements and deadlines, choosing up to two study programmes in order of preference. Universities may hold entrance exams, and doctoral applicants should secure a supervisor. For students from partner countries, it is a generous, fully funded route to study in Europe.
