About this scholarship

The University of Gothenburg offers scholarships covering 75% to 100% of the tuition fee for academically outstanding international (non-EU/EEA) students applying to Master’s programs beginning in August 2026. Gothenburg is Sweden’s second-largest city and a European leader in sustainability and quality of life. The university is one of Scandinavia’s largest with internationally renowned programs in marine sciences, social work, global studies, public health, creative arts, and business.

Eligibility

  • Must be a fee-paying student (non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen)
  • Must be admitted to a Master's program at the University of Gothenburg for the autumn semester
  • Must demonstrate excellent academic achievement in prior studies
  • Must meet the English language requirements of the chosen program (typically IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90)
  • Must not be receiving funding from another scholarship that covers tuition fees

Standard admission application documents through universityadmissions.se: Academic transcripts from prior institutions, Bachelor's degree certificate, English language proficiency test results (IELTS/TOEFL), Passport copy, CV/Resume (for some programs), Motivation letter (for some programs), Work experience documentation (for some programs)

How to Apply

  • Be a fee-paying international student (a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland who must pay tuition in Sweden) applying to an eligible campus-based bachelor's or master's programme at the University of Gothenburg as your first-priority choice and meeting its admission requirements
  • For the main awards (the Axel Adler Scholarship and the University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship), first apply for the programme via universityadmissions.se by mid-January and document eligibility/pay the application fee by early February
  • Eligible students are then emailed scholarship application instructions (some awards require a CV and motivation letter). Selection is on academic merit. These scholarships are tuition-fee waivers (full or partial) and do not cover living costs
