Why study here

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) is a private business school in central Stockholm, founded in 1909 with funding from the Swedish business community. It focuses on business administration, economics and finance, and it is a small school compared with Sweden's public universities. Its master's programs are taught in English, and it is a member of the CEMS alliance of business schools. Students from outside the EU and EEA pay tuition fees.

Admission requirements

  • A completed secondary school certificate for bachelor's, a relevant bachelor's degree for master's, and usually a master's for a PhD
  • English-taught programs: IELTS, TOEFL or another test the university accepts; Swedish-taught programs: Swedish at upper-secondary level (TISUS or equivalent)
  • Official transcripts and certificates, with certified translations if they are not in English or Swedish
  • For master's and PhD: a CV, statement of purpose and academic references; PhD applicants usually also need a research proposal and an agreed supervisor
  • A valid passport and proof that you can pay tuition and living costs for the student visa

How to apply

  • Choose your program and check its entry requirements, language of instruction and deadline on the university website
  • Apply through universityadmissions.se, Sweden's national application portal (non-EU applicants pay an application fee)
  • Upload transcripts, language scores, your passport and, for postgraduate programs, CV, statement of purpose and references
  • Pay the application fee if the university charges one, and apply before the program deadline
  • Non-EU students pay the first tuition instalment, then apply for a residence permit for studies from the Swedish Migration Agency
